On May 23, over 140 of the best Magic players from Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean gathered in Mexico City for the Central America Magic Series. Some competitors were there after Top Finishes in their last Regional Championship, while others earned invitations by qualifying through events at their local game stores.
At the end of eight rounds of Swiss play followed by a single-elimination Top 8 bracket, Francisco Avila emerged victorious. Congratulations to Francisco Avila, who earned his first trophy at the Central America Magic Series!
Avila defeated Javier Castellan in the final match, piloting Dimir Excruciator to a 2-1 victory over Castellan's Izzet Prowess deck. This was an incredible fifth Regional Championship for Castellan, who won a Regional Championship last March.
Congratulations to the Top 8!
It was an exceptional Top 8 in Mexico City, with multiple players, including Castellan and Dagoberto Silva, having Regional Championship trophies to their name. Dimir Excruciator and Izzet Prowess each put two copies into the Top 8 and were joined by up-and-coming lists like Selesnya Landfall and Four-Color Control, even a rogue copy of Simic Landfall in the hands of Jose Samperio.
Making the cut to the Top 8 wasn't the end of the qualification journey for these players, as only those who made it out of the quarterfinals and into the Top 4 would earn Pro Tour invitations. Congratulations to the Top 4, who are on their way to the Pro Tour! You can see the qualifying decklists here.
Another Regional Championship in the Books!
Congratulations to all the competitors at the Central American Regional Championship who already achieved an incredible goal by just being there. You can join them during the next Regional Championship cycle by attending a qualifying event at a local game store near you.
