One weekend, one trophy, and one chance to claim victory. Magic World Championship 31 is just around the corner, and every player is hoping to claim the title of World Champion. It's an honor with decades of history behind it, so get ready for a weekend of high-stakes Magic like you've never seen before.
What Is World Championship 31?
World Championship 31 is the biggest competitive Magic event of the season. Players have qualified for the event through a variety of means, from their performance at Pro Tours, MTG Arena events, Magic Online events, and more. Their unifying trait is that they're all amazing competitors, and they'll all be playing to win. The invitation list is available online (and subject to change).
Alongside the prestige of the World Championships, $1,000,000 in prizes is up for grabs, alongside the World Championship 31 trophy. Competitors that finish in the Top 8 will receive invitations to each Pro Tour and the World Championship in the 2025–2026 season.
The winner of World Championship 31 will receive a grand prize of $100,000. All competitors will receive $4,000 regardless of how they place. A full prize table will be published the week of December 1, 2025.

World Championship 31: The Story So Far
Over the past year, we've seen stars rise from well-known paths like the Pro Tour as well as new avenues like the Magic Spotlight Series. This season has flung open the gates of competitive Magic, inviting more players into the fold than ever before. From this expanded crop, our World Championship 31 competitors have risen through the ranks and will be eager to prove their skill on a global stage.
As we round out the year, players also have their sights set on the Player of the Year award. Awarded to the competitor with the most Player of the Year Points at the conclusion of the season, this award pulls from the results of all three Pro Tours of the season in addition to World Championship 31. The player who walks away with this title will also receive the Kai Budde Player of the Year trophy, a stunning prize named after one of the all-time greats of Magic.
Our writers will cover the race for Player of the Year and the title of World Champion in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on Magic.gg!
Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender Draft Overview
Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender was released on November 21, and players have been able to draft the set on MTG Arena for nearly a week. Compared to Pro Tour Edge of Eternities, where competitors had nearly two months of experience with the drafted set, World Championship 31 competitors will need to quickly assess this new release.

Unlucky Cabbage Merchant
With four brand-new mechanics and a bevy of legendary creatures adding texture to the Limited format, we'll have to wait and see what archetypes rise to the top. Because the World Championship has fewer rounds than a Pro Tour, players' performance during the Draft rounds will be more important than ever. If you want to make it all the way to Sunday, mastering this new set may be your key to victory.
The State of Standard at World Championship 31
Three Standard powerhouses—
Simic Ouroboroid, Sultai Reanimator, and Dimir Midrange put up solid results at the aforementioned Magic Spotlight Series events, but they were ultimately overshadowed by the winning decks. We may see these decks make a resurgence at World Championship 31, or players may seize this moment to try out a new deck that's unlike anything we've seen before!
Meet the World Championship 31 Broadcast Team
A massive event deserves a massive crew of casters! Throughout the weekend, our team of experts will be providing coverage and commentary on the action. When Will World Championship 31 Decklists Be Published?
Standard Constructed decklists for the tournament will be published on the World Championship 31 event page on Friday, December 5, at the beginning of Round 4 gameplay. All Magic: The Gathering | Avatar: The Last Airbender Draft decklists will not be published.
You can watch coverage for World Championship 31 each day here at Magic.gg and at twitch.tv/magic and youtube.com/@Play_MTG.
